Who Has Time To Read?????????

One of the BIGGEST questions I get all of the time from friends, family members, and even blog followers is “How in the world do you find time to read so many books?” Well, for the the answer is pretty easy. I require very little sleep and my nights are devoted to two things once the children go to sleep, homework and my love for books.

Ask yourself this question. How many books have you read since the beginning of the year?

According to an article on Time Management Ninja’s website, the average person reads less than 6 books per year.

Now, I realize that the average person can’t function very well on less that 8 hours of sleep. So I wanted to give you a few suggestions that I’ve found through just a little bit of research.

  • Make your waiting time count. Consider all of the time that you spend waiting in the car line to pick up your kids, waiting at the doctors office, waiting for classes to start. I know that every day I spend at least an hour or combined just waiting on whatever is next. Instead of spending that time texting or talking, try reading.
  • Make it accessible. One of the most common suggestions for making time to read is to always carry your books with you. What better way to make sure you have a great selection that with an E-Reader or a simple application on your phone that allows you to purchase digital books.
  • Don’t finish it all. As an avid reader I have come across books that were just a total bore! It would take me weeks to get through it, and for me that is pretty unheard of! I have had to learn to just put it down. You don’t always have to finish a book that you start if it just doesn’t interest you.
  • Set a goal and make it a priority. We often spend so much time setting goals for our children, goals pertaining to work, and goals for everything else in life that we forget that we need to prioritize doing things that are just for us. Reading, well it is something that I do that only benefits me. If I feel like time has slipped away from me for a few days and I haven’t turned the first page of a book that wasn’t part of an assignment, I stop and prioritize things. Does that sound silly? I’m sure it does. But just like I have told you before, reading is my therapy. So, for my husband and my children’s sake, I make it a priority.

So, how do you find time to read? Try some of those tips and let me know how they work for you. While you are at it, please remember that not only does reading take the stress level down a notch or two, but it also makes you smarter. Now you know MY secret.
